At the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT in Aachen, we are creating the production of the future with more than 450 employees – digital, sustainable and resilient. In the »Glass and Precision Manufacturing« department, we are looking for motivated student assistants to support us in innovative research projects.
As a student assistant, you will support our team with FEM simulations and Python programming, gaining valuable research experience alongside your studies. You will collaborate with an experienced, interdisciplinary research team and contribute to the development of Abaqus simulations for glass molding processes, including model setup, meshing, debugging, result extraction, and evaluation. You will also post-process simulation data in Python for optimization and machine-learning applications.

- Numerical modeling and programming for model optimization and machine-learning applications
- Perform material characterization of various optical glass materials
What you contribute
- Currently studying Computational Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Simulation Sciences, or a comparable subject
- Advanced programming skills in Python are required; basic knowledge of Fortran is an advantage
- Experience with FEM (Finite Element Method) simulation software, e.g., Abaqus or ANSYS, is expected; knowledge of user subroutine implementation is an advantage
- Good analytical skills and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary project work
- Initiative, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset
- Strong proficiency in English is required; knowledge of German is an advantage
