The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a motivated Design Engineer to join our Single-Use Designing team. Are you looking to work in an international environment and to utilize your recent experience as a Design Engineer? Keep on reading!
This is a full-time hybrid position based in Hillegom. You will have the opportunity to work from home for two days a week. As a successful Design Engineer, your main focus is to develop and create drawings and prototypes of single-use products in the life sciences/biopharma industry. We offer a 1-year contract, which will be extended after positive evaluation. Next to a competitive base salary, we offer benefits like 13th month, bonus scheme, 31 days of holidays, and a pension plan.
Position Profile
This position is responsible for the development / creation of approval drawings, product related engineering documentation, prototypes, and sample sets for the single-use systems business. This includes ensuring the assembly will meet the performance criteria required by the customer. The individual performs a variety of functions including design, fabrication, assembly or testing in the production of electrical, mechanical, or other components/devices. This position will work closely with design engineers, account managers, customer service, production, and quality.
The team
Avantor’s Singe-Use Designing team is part of our Engineering department. The team currently supports the creation of innovative Single-Use Biopharma products.
What we’re looking for
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Biomedical Engineering
Experience: 2-3 years of experience as a Design Engineer; including competency in developing drawings. Life Sciences industry experience is a plus!
Tools: Good knowledge of MS Office (mainly Excel), AutoCAD and SolidWorks, or a similar software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills in English; Dutch is a great asset
- Pro-active, adaptable, and flexible
- Highly organized, good problem-solving skills, and customer-friendly personality
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with customers and suppliers.
- Ability to grasp technical concepts and their application to customer’s processes.
- Experience working with piping/tubing systems.
- Technical knowledge & understanding of P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)
- Knowledge / experience working with engineering plastics & thermoelastic materials.
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Knowledge of PDM Software
How you will thrive and create an impact
- Develop both basic and more technically detailed approval drawings based on sketches or descriptions from account managers or customers.
- Select appropriate subcomponents and ensuring all connections are engineered to function as required (i.e., temperature, pressure). This may include developing test protocols and performing physical tests.
- Calculate cost of Single Use products using software provided.
- Entering/maintaining Bills of Materials (BOM) and Method of Manufacturing (MOM) in ERP system.
- Conduct feasibility and cost estimation of products to ensure the design can meet business and customer needs.
- Organize the performing of and/or personally perform various tests (e.g., pressure test, pull test, etc.) and create validation packets for customers.
- Maintain engineering documents including a library of all subcomponents with appropriate data.
- Take role in engineering harmonization activities, global engineering process development projects as a team member.
- Assist in resolving customer complaints in a timely manner; notify management of problems and suggest corrective actions.
- Contact with existing / new vendors to implement state of the art industry solutions.
- Understand and support company operating procedures to provide proper and effective service to all customers and foster the development of long-term business relationships.
- Support and consult production department especially on engineering related issues.
- Travel to customer locations to assist sales team with customer opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
