Amentum is seeking a Librarian to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Librarian is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the library facility and its services to ensure the delivery of high-quality resources and programming to support the informational, educational, and recreational needs of military personnel and families.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operations of the library, including organizing resources, maintaining systems, and ensuring the library is clean, well-maintained, and inviting.
- Provide assistance to library users in locating resources, performing research, and using library systems and equipment.
- Manage the collection, including cataloging, organizing, and maintaining materials in accordance with library science principles.
- Monitor the library’s inventory and implement measures to maintain the resource catalog.
- Develop and promote relevant library programs and services to support the MWR objectives and meet the needs of the community.
- Conduct programs, workshops, and events for library users, including programs that promote literacy, learning, and cultural activities.
- Train and mentor support staff and volunteers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Maintain records of library transactions, including check-outs, membership, returned materials, and overdue items.
- Stay up to date with new library technologies and implement them as appropriate to enhance library services.
- Enforce library policies and guidelines to ensure a positive and respectful environment for all patrons.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- Four-year college degree in Library Science or a related field, OR two (2) years of satisfactory experience in a military, school, or public library system with high school diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with cataloging systems, digital resource management, and library organization principles.
- Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills to assist and interact effectively with library patrons.
- Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and library management systems or willingness to learn.
- Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all required training and certifications, including Customer Service, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and First Aid training, with annual recertification as required.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year at the time of hire.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully meet contract medical requirements and maintain readiness for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or additional certifications in Library Science or Information Management.
- Previous experience managing a library or working in leadership roles within a military or government library system.
- Familiarity with U.S. Navy MWR guidelines and library programming.
- Experience in developing and managing library programs to include literacy workshops, educational seminars, or special initiatives.
- Experience working in a remote OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) or austere environment.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
