Cell Press is a premium portfolio of scientific journals within Elsevier, known for editorial excellence, scientific influence, and trusted relationships with the global research community. For more than 50 years, Cell Press has published research and reviews that advance discovery across the life, medical, physical, and sustainability sciences. As part of Elsevier’s STMJ organization, the Cell Press marketing team works closely with editors, publishing colleagues, and commercial, analytics, communications, events, and digital teams to grow the reach and impact of our journals.
About the Role
As Marketing Manager, you will lead marketing strategy and execution for two important areas of the Cell Press portfolio: a group of leading primary research journals in fields including cancer, immunology, metabolism, and translational and clinical research; and the Trends reviews series, 16 field-focused journals that help shape scientific discussion across disciplines. You will develop researcher-focused campaigns, strengthen journal brands, and create impactful portfolio programs that support submissions, readership, citations, transfers, and engagement. Based in Amsterdam, you will help strengthen Cell Press’s presence within the Elsevier office and connect portfolio priorities with broader STMJ and Elsevier strategy.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute annual marketing plans for seven primary research journals and the Trends portfolio;
- Lead portfolio-level marketing for Cell Press’s leading brands in cancer, immunology and metabolism, driving readership and submissions across the portfolio;
- Develop and deliver brand marketing for Cell Reports, Cell Reports Medicine, and Med, supporting submission, publication, readership, and engagement targets;
- Lead portfolio marketing for all 16 Trends review journals, creating a unified positioning and campaign approach;
- Translate journal and portfolio positioning into clear, researcher-centric campaigns that drive submissions, readership, transfers, and content discovery;
- Build strong working relationships with Editors-in-Chief, publishing teams and cross-functional partners across editorial, communications, digital, events and analytics;
- Define and monitor KPIs, using data and insights to evaluate performance, optimize campaigns and make recommendations to stakeholders;
- Apply AI-enabled tools and emerging marketing approaches to improve campaign speed, personalization, scalability, and efficiency;
- Represent Cell Press at relevant scientific conferences in Europe and the Americas.
Requirements
- Proven experience developing and executing marketing plans across multiple brands, products or portfolios, with a strong track record in brand development and campaign management;
- Experience creating researcher-centric campaigns that drive engagement, submissions, readership and content discovery; experience in scholarly publishing or academic marketing is preferred;
- Strong ability to translate brand positioning and audience insights into differentiated, effective marketing strategies and campaigns;
- Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with confidence engaging senior editorial and publishing stakeholders;
- Strong analytical skills and experience using marketing performance metrics and reporting tools to evaluate and optimize activity;
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage a large and varied portfolio of projects simultaneously;
- Curious about AI and emerging marketing technologies, with an interest in using AI-enabled tools to improve campaign speed, personalization, scalability and efficiency;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with a genuine interest in science and supporting the global research community;
- Based in the Netherlands, Amsterdam region.
