For the first time, global technology leader TSMC is building a semiconductor fab in the heart of Europe, offering cutting-edge manufacturing technologies for next-generation semiconductor products. ESMC represents a shared commitment to strengthening the European semiconductor ecosystem. For our future fab in Dresden, we are looking for a highly motivated and committed: Chemical Quality & Laboratory Engineer (m/f/d)
Are you ready to design, build, and run a state-of-the-art analytical chemistry laboratory from the ground up? As a Chemical Quality & Laboratory Engineer (m/f/d) at ESMC, you will be key to establishing our chemical laboratory infrastructure in Dresden. *Starting on January 2027*, you will manage our analytical instruments, set up testing standards, and verify the quality of incoming materials and facility chemical systems. Collaborating closely with our advanced teams in Taiwan and leading a small group of local technicians, you will directly safeguard the production quality of Europe's newest premier semiconductor fab! Job Responsibilities 1. Lab Infrastructure Setup: Design, establish, and optimize our on-site chemical lab capacity, process setups, and analytical capabilities. 2. Instrument Management: Lead the operation, calibration, and maintenance of high-precision analytical equipment, with a focus on ICP-MS, GC-MS, PTR-MS, and Ion Chromatography (IC). 3. Material Quality Control: Execute routine and event-triggered monitoring of incoming chemicals and raw materials to ensure strict compliance with manufacturing standards. 4. Technical Writing: Define Operational Instructions (OIs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the laboratory environment. 5. Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and coordinate a small, dedicated group of laboratory technicians. 6. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with fab and facility teams to troubleshoot chemical events, support continuous improvement projects (CIP), and verify tool certifications. 7. Emergency On-Duty Support: Participate in weekend and night-shift on-duty rotations to handle urgent chemical safety or quality escalations. Job Qualifications Must-Have:
1. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a related scientific discipline. 2. Technical Experience: 0 to 3 years of hands-on experience in chemical analysis, with deep knowledge of analytical techniques such as ICP-MS, GC-MS, PTR-MS, or Ion Chromatography (IC). 3. Analytical Skillset: Experience in standard sample preparation, calibration curves, statistical process control (SPC) data interpretation, and analytical instrument troubleshooting. 4. Soft Skills: Strong collaborative mindset, intercultural openness, resilience under pressure, and a structured, detail-oriented approach to safety and quality. 5. Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
Nice-to-Have:
1. Prior experience in a semiconductor manufacturing environment or cleanroom chemical lab management. 2. Knowledge of European chemical regulations (such as REACH) and safety standards. 3. Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, R, or SQL) for analytical data processing. 4. Basic communication skills in German and/or Mandarin.
