The Opportunity
Are you passionate about power systems protection and eager to contribute to the energy transition? We are now looking for an experienced HVDC Protection Project Engineer to join our global HVDC team in Ludvika. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, implementing, and testing advanced protection systems that enable reliable and efficient transmission of electricity across the world. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and suppliers to deliver innovative HVDC solutions that support grid stability and sustainable energy development.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Lead and contribute to the specification, design, and engineering of HVDC protection systems for global projects.
- Perform protection studies including fault calculations, relay coordination, and stability analyses for HVDC converter stations and transmission systems.
- Develop and review protection philosophies, functional design specifications, logic diagrams, and test procedures.
- Configure, verify, and validate protection schemes to ensure reliable system performance and compliance with project requirements.
- Execute and support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for protection equipment and systems.
- Provide technical expertise during commissioning and post-commissioning phases, supporting successful project delivery.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, customers, suppliers, and engineering disciplines to resolve technical challenges and optimize solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, share knowledge, and mentor less experienced engineers within the organization.
Your Background
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in protection engineering, preferably within HVDC, FACTS, or power transmission systems.
- Desirable understanding of HVDC technology, converter topologies (VSC and/or LCC), and associated protection principles.
- Strong knowledge of high voltage substation protection and control systems, including design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of protection schemes for transmission and distribution networks.
- Experience with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) settings, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as PSCAD, PSS®E, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Knowledge of international standards and communication protocols, including IEC 61850 and IEC 60255.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in global, multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
