Senior Associate, Restructuring & Insolvency - British Virgin Islands
About Alvarez & Marsal
Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm with entrepreneurial, action and results-oriented professionals. We take a hands-on approach to solving our clients' problems and assisting them in reaching their potential. Our culture celebrates independent thinkers and doers who positively impact on our clients and shape our industry. The collaborative environment and engaging work-guided by A&M's core values of Integrity, Quality, Objectivity, Fun, Personal Reward, and Inclusive Diversity-are why our people love working at A&M.
The Team
Our British Virgin Islands office is experiencing significant growth, winning and delivering high-profile cross-border restructuring and insolvency engagements across the Caribbean and internationally. Backed by one of the world's leading restructuring practices, our team advises companies, lenders, investors and other stakeholders on complex cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters involving offshore structures and multinational businesses. As part of A&M's global Restructuring practice, you will work seamlessly with colleagues across the UK, US, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Caribbean, delivering market-leading restructuring and insolvency solutions without the audit conflicts associated with traditional professional services firms.
How you will contribute
As part of a highly skilled team, you will take a leading role on high-profile, complex engagements across restructuring advisory and insolvency, working alongside many of the industry's leading Senior and Managing Directors. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop both your technical and commercial expertise.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing significant workstreams and taking day-to-day responsibility for the delivery of restructuring and insolvency engagements, including workplans, budgets, timelines and key deliverables.
- Analysing complex financial and operational information, assessing financial performance, liquidity and cash flow, and identifying key commercial, financial and insolvency issues.
- Supporting office holders in the conduct and administration of formal insolvency appointments, including liquidations, receiverships, investigations, asset recovery and realisation strategies.
- Preparing and reviewing high-quality financial analyses, reports, presentations and correspondence for clients, office holders, creditors and other stakeholders.
- Working directly with clients, directors, creditors, shareholders, lenders, legal advisers and other professional advisers, often across multiple jurisdictions.
- Supervising and developing junior team members, while supporting Senior and Managing Directors in shaping engagement strategy and delivering commercially focused recommendations.
You will gain broad industry and international exposure across formal insolvency, restructuring advisory, and other stressed and distressed situations - and will be encouraged to continue developing your external profile and professional network, both within A&M and across the wider business, legal and financial community.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, successful candidates will demonstrate:
- An internationally recognised professional qualification in accounting or finance, such as ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent, supported by a strong academic record.
- A minimum of 4 years' relevant experience within a professional services, restructuring, insolvency, turnaround or related advisory environment is expected.
- Candidates should demonstrate substantial experience working on complex engagements and the ability to manage significant aspects of an assignment with limited supervision.
- A strong grounding in financial analysis and accounting principles is essential, together with experience assessing financial performance, liquidity, cash flow, capital structures and key business risks.
- Candidates should demonstrate strong commercial judgement and an ability to analyse complex financial and factual information, identify key issues and develop practical solutions.
- Experience managing multiple workstreams, coordinating with senior stakeholders and professional advisers, and supervising junior team members will also be expected
Soft skills
In addition to the technical capabilities above, successful candidates will demonstrate:
- A self-starter who is comfortable taking ownership of workstreams and assignments while working collaboratively as part of a team
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging and uncertain environment
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence interacting with senior clients, stakeholders and professional advisers
- An objective, fact-based and commercially minded approach to problem solving
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to supervise, develop and motivate junior team members
- Driven by values and integrity, builds confidence and leads by example
