About Grob Aircraft
Grob Aircraft AG is a leading German manufacturer renowned for its pioneering expertise in advanced composite aircraft structures, with decades of experience in developing military training aircraft (e.g., G 120TP) and high-performance lightweight airframes. As we expand our capabilities into next-generation defense platforms — including low-observable technology integration for military training systems, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and research demonstrator programs — we are looking for a Senior RAM/RAS Engineer to lead the development of radar signature reduction solutions.
This is a unique opportunity to bring stealth technology expertise into a company with deep roots in composite aerospace manufacturing, contributing to both national and European defense initiatives.
About the Role
As Senior RAM/RAS Engineer, you will take a leading technical role in designing, developing, and qualifying radar-absorbing materials and structures for integration into Grob's military aircraft platforms and future low-observable demonstrator projects. You will combine deep electromagnetic engineering knowledge with Grob's established composite manufacturing excellence to deliver lightweight, structurally sound, and RF-effective solutions.
In this senior capacity, you will not only drive technical design and testing but also mentor junior engineers, interface directly with governmental and industrial partners, and contribute to strategic technology roadmaps for signature management within the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, simulation, and development of RAM coatings and RAS composite structures for a future unmanned/low-observable platforms.
- Drive electromagnetic (EM) simulation and modeling efforts (e.g., using CST Studio Suite, Ansys HFSS) to optimize radar cross-section (RCS) reduction while maintaining structural and aerodynamic performance.
- Work closely with airframe structural engineers to ensure RAM/RAS solutions meet flight loads, aerodynamic, thermal, and weight requirements specific to fighter/military aircraft operations.
- Define and execute material characterization and RF testing programs (permittivity/permeability measurement, RCS testing in anechoic chambers or outdoor ranges).
- Ensure compliance with relevant military and aerospace standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DEF STAN, or equivalent European/German defense procurement standards).
- Represent Grob Aircraft in technical exchanges with government customers, subcontractors, and research partners, including participation in program reviews and technical working groups.
- Support prototype development, testing campaigns, and certification activities related to signature reduction technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of professional experience in RAM/RAS engineering, electromagnetic materials development, or low-observable technology, ideally within a military aerospace context.
- Proven expertise in electromagnetic simulation tools (CST, HFSS, FEKO, or similar) and RF/microwave measurement techniques.
- Strong background in composite materials and structures, ideally with experience integrating functional materials (e.g., RAM) into carbon-fiber or fiberglass airframe components.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor junior engineering staff.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working on military aircraft, UAV, or European defense demonstrator programs.
- Knowledge of frequency-selective surfaces (FSS), metamaterials, or active signature control technologies.
- Background in multi-spectral signature management (RF, IR) in addition to radar signature reduction.
- Existing active German security clearance is a strong plus.
- Experience with field-level repair and maintenance concepts for RAM coatings on operational military aircraft.
