About us
Rentman is a B2B SaaS scale-up building a smart, powerful operations management platform to support event and media production teams. We’re based in Utrecht (NL) with a second office in Toronto (CA), and our 100+ team members work in a culture that’s open, flat, and inclusive, where curiosity drives us, ownership matters, and everyone has the freedom to challenge ideas and make an impact. Mission of this role
Bring design ownership to a design system currently being built code-first: defining Rentman's visual language and building a governed, Figma-and-code-aligned component system, so product teams inherit consistent, accessible, high-craft UI instead of designing and coding each surface from scratch. You'll also be the team's visual-craft anchor: our strongest visual and UI designer, raising the craft bar on everything we ship, not just the system itself.
What you'll do
- Define Rentman's visual language (hierarchy, density, tone, when-to guidance) and document it so teams can apply it without you in the room.
- Build and maintain the Figma component library to our Definition of Done: in Figma and in Storybook/Angular at parity, token-driven, documented, and passing WCAG AA.
- Document the system in two layers: human guidelines and rationale, plus machine-readable usage rules that AI design and development tools can apply reliably.
- Establish the patterns and templates layer for our priority flows, so teams compose instead of reinventing.
- Run governance: the contribution process, changelog, deprecations, and design reviews with a clear turnaround.
- Partner daily with our Design System Developer as a small, autonomous two-person team, and act as the design team's visual-craft anchor via crit and review, while the product teams building Rentman's software remain your most important stakeholders.
What we are looking for
- Top-of-team UI and visual craft, backed by a strong portfolio - you'll be the most visually skilled designer on the team from day one.
- Expert in Figma (variants, tokens/variables, auto-layout), with real hands-on experience building a design system.
- WCAG AA fluency, and a genuine understanding of what makes software interfaces good, and how to build them.
- An understanding of what makes a design system consumable by AI tooling: why publishing token data is the easy part, and encoding usage rules is the hard part.
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders (product owners, developers, designers), and a healthy relationship with critique (giving it and receiving it).
Nice to haves
- Prior experience as the sole or founding design owner of a design system.
- Experience introducing governance and contribution models for design systems, ideally in a B2B SaaS or complex, power-user product.
- Hands-on experience shipping an agent-facing design-system surface (e.g. an MCP server, component manifest, or llms.txt-style export), or exposure to Angular front-end conventions.
What you’ll get
- Competitive salary based on experience, plus 8% holiday allowance
- A results-based bonus based on company performance (up to a full 13th month's salary)
- 25 vacation days to recharge
- Earn an extra day of PTO for each year at Rentman, from your second anniversary up to five years.
- A 4-week paid sabbatical after 5 years to go on an adventure
- Flexible WFH policy & work from anywhere for 4 weeks a year
- Pension plan through BrightPensioen
- An annual training budget to grow your skills
- Access to OpenUp for mental well-being and personal growth
- Your choice of a shiny new Windows, Linux, or Mac
- Stay active with the team: join the Rentman football team, squash and padel, plus a discounted Urban Sports membership
- An OV Business card if you live more than 10km from the office
- An ambitious, inclusive, and diverse international team
- A flexible, energizing workplace with free lunches, office perks (PS5, ping pong, D&D), legendary karaoke nights, and regular team activities
- An amazing office in the heart of Utrecht, in the historic Drift 17
