Primary Objectives
Support the successful running of the kitchen by maintaining high operational standards, assisting with preparation and service, and ensuring food quality, safety, and consistency.
Work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen management to control food costs, reduce waste, and maintain efficient prep and ordering systems.
Contribute positively to the kitchen team culture through strong communication, teamwork, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food to the standards set by the Head Chef or Area Head Chef.
- Follow kitchen systems and maintain consistency in recipes, prep, and presentation.
- Assist with prep lists, ordering, and stock rotation to ensure accurate inventory management.
- Communicate any low-prep levels, missing items, or stock issues to the Head Chef promptly.
- Maintain a positive and solutions-oriented attitude within the team.
- Communicate clearly and regularly with management and peers.
- Offer and receive feedback constructively to support continuous improvement.
- Support the Head Chef, Sous Chef, and kitchen staff at all times.
- Ensure proper implementation of all kitchen systems and routines.
- Assist with preparation and testing of specials.
- Check off deliveries, note returns or missing goods, and ensure invoices match deliveries.
- Maintain opening and closing routines to standard.
- Maintain quality control in all aspects of food preparation and presentation.
- Match and uphold the standards set by the Head Chef.
- Reduce wastage by maintaining proper prep levels and storage practices.
- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards in accordance with HACCP guidelines.
- Date and label all stored items properly.
- Conduct weekly temperature checks for fridges and freezers.
- Maintain cleaning standards and ensure handwashing areas are stocked with soap and paper towels.
- Communicate any required overtime or downtime to management.
- Track and report any wastage issues.
- Manage personal working hours to stay within contracted limits.
Contractual Requirements
- Maintain a professional standard of work and behaviour in line with company values and policies.
- Work scheduled hours, including weekends and peak periods as required.
- Record hours accurately and ensure leave is approved in advance by management.
Performance Evaluation
Performance will be reviewed annually based on:
- Kitchen operational efficiency and consistency
- Food quality and adherence to standards
- Communication, teamwork, and contribution to kitchen culture
- Compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards
Nature of the Job
- Exercise independent & proactive problem-solving and decision-making within the scope of the role.
- Receive guidance and support from senior management through regular meetings.
- Assume ownership and accountability for assigned responsibilities.
- The role is not limited to the responsibilities listed above and may include additional tasks as required by the business.
