Project description
This researcher position for 8 months in chemical metabolomics for method development and biomarker discovery of liver and psychological diseases is available in the laboratory of Professor Daniel Globisch. The Globisch laboratory is an international and multidisciplinary research group (https://www.globischlab.org). Our research focus lies on the quantitative and qualitative metabolomics analysis of human samples for biomarker discovery of pancreatic cancer and other related diseases. As the microbiome is a crucial factor for disease development and modulation, we are also developing Chemical Biology methodologies for the targeted investigation of microbiome metabolism (https://www.globischlab.org/research-projects/). Our team is currently searching for a highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic researcher with passion and enthusiasm for science to support our ongoing interdisciplinary research projects.
Duties
The researcher will develop chemoselective methodologies to investigate human and mammalian samples from liver and psychological diseases. The successful candidate will develop novel chemoselective probe tools, perform metabolite extraction from biological samples, UHPLC-MS/MS analysis, and statistical metabolomics analysis. Newly developed Chemical Biology methodologies from the Globisch laboratory will be applied to these samples to gain additional information from the microbiome metabolism. The researcher position will be 100% research.
Requirements
- The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in Bio(organic) chemistry with additional experience after the PhD studies and should have documented laboratory experience in the following areas: Chemical Metabolomics, chemical synthesis, mass spectrometric analysis of human or mammalian samples, Chemical Biology tool development, Phase II-metabolism, chemoselective and bioorthogonal reactions, and working in collaborations with medical scientists.
- The PhD degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment.
- Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as good collaborative skills, motivation and independence, as well as how the applicant through his/her experience and competence is judged to have the abilities necessary to develop within the project.
- Good English speaking, reading and writing skills are required.
Additional qualifications
Scores from IELTS or TOEFL are desirable but not mandatory at the time of applying.
