Our department consists of 17 colleagues, including scientists, laboratory associates, leadership, and a student helper. We work across two focus areas:
developing innovative enzymatic solutions for oil and fat processing applications and creating new biosolutions for emerging sustainability opportunities such as carbon capture and renewable plastics. As a Laboratory Technician Trainee, you will become an integrated member of our team, collaborating with experienced scientists and laboratory technicians while building valuable technical and professional skills.
The role & your impact
As a Laboratory Technician Trainee, you will contribute to ongoing research and development projects that support real industrial applications and customer challenges. The role offers broad exposure to analytical techniques, laboratory operations, data analysis, and scientific documentation while helping advance innovative biosolutions.
Your key responsibilities in this role
- Participate in laboratory-based research and development activities within oils, fats, and sustainability-focused projects.
- Perform laboratory experiments and analyses under the guidance of experienced colleagues.
- Learn to operate and interpret results from analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, NMR, titration, and NIR spectroscopy.
- Analyze and process experimental data using Excel and SAS JMP.
- Document laboratory work accurately using the electronic laboratory notebook system Benchling.
- Collaborate with scientists and laboratory associates on project activities and knowledge sharing.
- Support the generation of data that contributes to product development and commercial innovation.
What you’ll need to be successful in this role
We are looking for someone who is about to complete the theoretical part of their Laboratory Technician education and is available to start their traineeship on February 1, 2027.
- Enrolled in, or eligible for, a Laboratory Technician Traineeship program.
- A strong interest in laboratory work, chemistry, biotechnology, analytical science, or related disciplines.
- Good attention to detail and a structured approach to documenting work.
- Basic IT skills and willingness to learn digital laboratory and data analysis tools.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Curiosity and motivation to learn new laboratory techniques and scientific concepts.
- Strong communication skills in a collaborative working environment.
Additional skills & interests we value
- Interest in industrial biotechnology, oils and fats processing, or sustainability applications.
- Familiarity with analytical laboratory equipment through education or previous project work.
- Experience using Excel for data handling and analysis.
- Interest in scientific problem solving and continuous learning.
- Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Working conditions
- Standard working hours are typically 08:00-16:00.
- Flexible working hours are available within the framework of 06:30-17:00.
- Laboratory-based role with hands-on experimental work.
- Work is carried out in close collaboration with scientists and laboratory technicians while also allowing for independent responsibility.
- The role combines practical laboratory activities, data analysis, and documentation.
