THE ROLE
As a QC Inspector Composites at Damen Naval, you play a key role in safeguarding and continuously improving the quality of high-end composite structures for complex naval projects. You will focus on the composite masts and deckhouses built for Damen Naval’s frigate programmes, working closely with subcontractors, Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, project teams and the customer.
You will coordinate and monitor quality activities throughout construction, final assembly and outfitting. By identifying quality issues, supporting inspections, reviewing repairs and structural modifications, and driving improvements in project-specific quality processes, you help ensure that quality requirements are consistently met and that mission-critical naval products are delivered to the highest standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating and monitoring quality assurance activities throughout the construction and assembly of composite masts and deckhouses.
- Supporting and advising on quality inspections at our subcontractor and at Damen Naval during final assembly and outfitting.
- Monitoring, documenting and reporting quality progress, inspections, remarks and non-conformities, both internally and externally.
- Reviewing quality issues, repairs and structural modifications in close cooperation with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering.
- Participating in composite-related technical and project meetings with internal stakeholders, subcontractors and the customer.
- Identifying opportunities to improve project-specific quality processes and procedures and supporting their implementation. Promoting a strong quality mindset and ensuring that applicable quality standards, processes and procedures are consistently applied.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, preferably Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Technology or Shipbuilding, combined with 5–7 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 3–5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in quality assurance within a large manufacturing environment, preferably within shipbuilding or naval shipbuilding.
- Knowledge of quality management principles, processes and procedures and experience applying these in a project environment.
- Experience with manufacturing techniques and processes, preferably related to composite structures or naval shipbuilding.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, subcontractors and customers.
- Good command of the English language, both written and verbal. Knowledge of Dutch is preferred. Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
