There is an open call for one (1) Research Scholarship (“Bolsa de Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project COOL-DICE.
Scientific Area:
Basic Sciences and Enabling Technologies
Group:
Integrated Circuits – Av
Admission Requirements:
Research Grants (BI):
-
Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by students enrolled in a doctoral program, aiming to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the respective academic degree, whether or not integrated into R&D projects.
-
Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by master's degree holders who are enrolled in non-degree courses that are part of the educational programme of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in experimental research and an aptitude for the design, assembly, operation and optimization of experimental equipment. Previous experience in one or more of the following areas will be considered particularly relevant: Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) techniques, preferably Hot Filament Chemical Vapour Deposition (HFCVD); Growth of diamond or other thin-film materials; Design, construction, modification or operation of vacuum and gas-handling systems; Electrical, mechanical and/or electromechanical design and instrumentation; Optimization of deposition parameters and experimental processes; Surface preparation and nucleation processes for CVD diamond; Deposition and processing of films on semiconductor or ceramic substrates, including Si and SiC; Materials characterization techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), profilometry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), or related techniques. Experience with diamond deposition, HFCVD reactor development or modification, bias-assisted diamond nucleation, or magnetic-field-assisted deposition processes will be valued. Previous experience in preparing scientific publications, technical reports, conference contributions, or other forms of scientific and technical dissemination will be considered a preferential factor. Candidates should also demonstrate strong motivation for experimental scientific research, autonomy and practical problem-solving ability, together with the capacity to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research team. Good proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
Work Objectives:
The main objective of the work is the development of a magnetic-field-assisted Hot Filament Chemical Vapour Deposition (HFCVD) system for the controlled growth of diamond films and the investigation of the influence of magnetic-field-assisted deposition on diamond nucleation and growth. The work will comprise the design, implementation, commissioning and experimental optimization of the deposition system, followed by its application to diamond growth on different substrate materials.
Applicable legislation:
A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and “Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”, according to Law no. 123/2019, dated August 28 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), in its actual redaction, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Fellowship Regulation of Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia.
