The Manager, Software Engineering leads a team or multiple teams responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions in the domain of Geophysics. Translating strategic objectives into actionable plans, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals. This role requires a balance of technical leadership, people management, and cross-functional collaboration to drive innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
The Manager, Software Engineering is accountable for team performance and development, fostering a culture of ownership, agility, and engineering excellence. This role contributes to the evolution of technologies, platforms and practices, ensuring they meet the needs of customers and scale with the business.
Duties and responsibilities
People Leadership & Team Development
- Build and guide high-performing team(s) of experienced technical professionals, ranging from Associate to Principal and Leads, through hiring, mentoring, and development.
- Foster a strong engineering culture focused on ownership, reliability, and collaboration.
- Hold regular one-on-one meetings, conduct performance reviews, and support career development opportunities for direct reports.
- Responsible for the effective cascading and communication of objectives and key results that support business and department objectives.
- Conduct performance and talent evaluations for team members, as well as regular career development sessions.
- Monitor resourcing, capability, critical people dependencies/risks, and plan measures to mitigate future problems.
- Contribute to the successful utilisation of generative AI productivity tools across all technology functions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with architects, cloud infrastructure, SRE, security, and application teams to ensure alignment.
- Act as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders, empowering teams to leverage service capabilities effectively and drive organizational success.
- Facilitate the coordinated responses to escalated technical support issues from distributors and Technical Services teams.
- Collaborate closely with other Software Engineering leaders on projects across different development centres.
- Work closely with Product Managers and Product Designers or their leaders.
- May manage contracts, statements of work, milestones, and relationships with external third party software vendors and contractors.
- Define and measure success through internal adoption, performance metrics, and developer satisfaction.
Project Execution & Technical Delivery
- Translate strategic goals into actionable software development roadmaps.
- Balance the need for innovation, technical debt management, and business continuity.
- Maintain flexibility and adaptability during project execution, and review, approve and communicate policies as required.
- Ensure Seeqeunt’s software development processes are well understood and implemented by the team(s)
Security, Reliability & Compliance
- Embed security and compliance into design.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
- Drive SRE practices such as SLAs, SLOs, and incident response within teams responsible for services.
Strategic and Operational Contribution
- Contribute to broader engineering strategy, especially around best practices, and scalability.
- Help plan future capacity, investment, and long-term technical direction.
- Advocate for organizational initiatives, ensuring leadership buy-in and team clarity.
- Drive the adoption of SRE practices, including SLAs, SLOs, and incident response procedures.
- Ensure systems are resilient, observable, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance developer experience and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Tertiary level qualifications in Software Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years demonstrated software engineering experience with minimum of 3 years experience leading a team directly or indirectly.
- Experience with agile development methodologies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

- Ability to execute functional strategies into actionable plans and oversee the execution of initiatives that directly impact team and job area performance.
- Ability to apply logical analysis and prior experience to resolve moderately complex challenges, making system and process enhancements to improve effectiveness.
- Experience in establishing communication policies, practices, and performance expectations clearly across teams and stakeholders, ensuring alignment and collaboration.
- In-depth practical knowledge of organizational practices and policies, with experience in applying new skills and tools to support team and business goals.
