Job Description
As Mechanical Designer you will work on various Mining & Metals projects, focusing on the development and optimization of plant layouts. You will be technically responsible for the layout and arrangement of equipment for a wide range of international brownfield, greenfield, and revamp facilities.
You will be working in a team of diverse engineers and designers located across multiple global offices in a multidisciplinary project environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to build and maintain internal and external client relationships are essential.

Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize plant and equipment layouts for mining and metals processing facilities
- Ensure proper equipment spacing, accessibility, and maintainability in line with project and operational requirements
- Incorporate maintenance, lifting, and safety access requirements into layout designs
- Address material handling systems, logistics routes, and transport flows within plant layouts
- Prepare and review plot plans, general arrangement drawings, and 3D models (together with the Piping Discipline)
- Coordinate and interface with process, piping, civil, electrical, and control systems disciplines
- Review vendor drawings, equipment footprints, and layout-related documentation
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and model reviews
- Support 3D modeling activities using industry-standard tools (e.g. E3D, SmartPlant 3D)
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and project/client specifications
- Plan the execution of layout work, track progress, and report to the Mechanical Lead Engineer Basic Job Requirements
- Degree in (Mechanical) Engineering or equivalent technical field
- Minimum of 8–10 years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience in plant layout/design within the Mining & Metals or heavy industry sector
- Strong knowledge of:
- Mechanical equipment arrangement and layout principles
- Maintenance and operational access requirements
- Industrial plant logistics and material flow
- Experience with 3D layout/design tools
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and design practices
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written; additional European languages (e.g., German/Dutch) are an advantage Other Job Requirements
