Amentum is seeking an Umpire to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Umpire ensures fair play by enforcing game rules, making quick, accurate decisions, and maintaining the integrity of the sport.
Job Responsibilities
- Officiate softball, baseball, or similar recreational league games in accordance with established rules and regulations.
- Ensure fair play, enforce game rules, and maintain control of the playing field.
- Make accurate, timely calls on plays, pitches, and player actions.
- Inspect fields, equipment, and player gear prior to games to ensure safety and compliance.
- Maintain game records, scorecards, and incident reports as required.
- Communicate effectively with players, coaches, and program staff to resolve disputes or clarify rules.
- Support scheduling, field setup, and coordination of league activities as needed.
- Promote sportsmanship, safety, and positive participation throughout all events.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience officiating softball, baseball, or similar sports.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification or formal training as an umpire or sports official.
- Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all required training and certifications, including Customer Service, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and local emergency procedures training, with annual recertification as required.
- Must possess a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for at least one year beyond hire date.
- Ability to obtain country‑specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
- Strong knowledge of game rules, officiating mechanics, and conflict‑resolution techniques.
- Valid country driver’s license.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
