The Commissioning Manager leads Sensori's commissioning function on a project, ensuring mechanical and electrical systems are started, tested and proven safely, in the right sequence and to the client's acceptance criteria. The role develops the commissioning plan and schedule, manages commissioning engineers and vendor resources, controls the interface with the client's commissioning agent, and integrates commissioning requirements into the construction program so that handover is predictable and fully documented.
Principal duties and responsibilities
- Develop and own the project commissioning plan, including strategy, organisation, level definitions, sequences, acceptance criteria and documentation requirements.
- Build and maintain the commissioning schedule; integrate it with the construction program and drive readiness of systems and areas to support it.
- Lead, allocate and develop the team of commissioning engineers; coordinate vendor and subcontractor commissioning resources.
- Chair commissioning coordination meetings with construction, quality, Authorised Persons, vendors and the client's commissioning agent.
- Oversee development and approval of method statements, checklists, test scripts and integrated systems test procedures.
- Manage the energisation and start-up sequence in conjunction with the Senior Authorised Person, ensuring permits, isolations and safety controls are in place.
- Monitor test execution, witness critical tests and ensure results are recorded, reviewed and accepted in the commissioning management system.
- Manage the commissioning issues log; drive closure of deficiencies with construction teams, subcontractors and vendors.
- Plan and lead integrated systems testing, including failure scenarios and redundancy demonstrations, with the client and third parties.
- Ensure complete, accurate turnover packages, training and documentation are delivered for handover.
- Report commissioning progress, risks and constraints to project leadership weekly; contribute to lessons learned and improvement of Sensori's commissioning standards.
- Support pre-construction and tenders with commissioning strategies, durations and resource plans.
Selection criteria / person specification
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering, or a trade qualification with extensive commissioning leadership experience.
- At least seven years in commissioning, including several years leading commissioning teams on data centre, pharmaceutical or mission-critical projects.
- Strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems, sequences of operation and integrated testing.
- Experience working with client commissioning agents and formal level-based commissioning processes.
- Proven ability to plan and schedule commissioning within a construction program and to manage readiness across trades.
- Familiarity with commissioning management software and structured documentation.
- Strong leadership, coordination and communication skills; able to chair meetings and influence senior stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of safe systems of work for energisation and live testing.
- Willing to travel and to be site-based for extended periods.
