The Senior Regulatory Specialist Trade Compliance is responsible for supporting trade compliance programs and activities for Ecolab's global business with a primary focus on EU export/import, cross border trade and free trade regulations.
The objective of this role is to support export/import, goods movement compliance management, including: classification, trade market authorization, auditing, database management, process development / maintenance, training, reporting and metrics. This objective is aligned with Ecolab’s Global Regulatory Affairs mission of supporting business growth while reducing risk of compliance gaps.
How you'll make an impact:
- Provides regulatory trade compliance business support/guidance for EU operations
- Trade master data classifications: Tariff code (annual updates, standardization, coordination with other regions for global compliance harmonization); Controlled items like Drug Precursors, Dual Use goods (ECCN), PIC, Explosive Precursors; Excise goods.
- Support internal questions with respect to tariff codes and other above mentioned trade compliance regulations
- Monitors & responds to EU customs/authority inquiries related to regulatory trade
- New product introduction and maintenance trade reviews
- Coordinate, monitor required export/import registrations/notifications, like: PIC; Drug precursors; Dual Use goods; Explosive Precursors
- Restricted Country reviews and approvals
- Supports denied party screening activities
- Support for internal compliance training programs
- Support development of procedures and system controls to comply with exp/imp and cross border market access regulations
- Manage SAP tickets for regulatory trade compliance data and functionality (submissions, functional specs, testing, approvals)
- Interface with operational groups to gather trade compliance data
- Leading/supporting internal or external assessments/audits
- Monitors and reviews new government regulations and assesses impact on organization as needed.
- Support supervisor in developing strategies to comply with trade regulations
- Manage small to large projects – oversees adequately scoped projects and can provide supervision to other team members
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering and or logistics area
- Over 5/10 years professional experience in the Regulatory Affairs area of Trade Compliance, Product Compliance, Customs market access requirements, International logistics for chemical products e,g. biocides, detergents, energy and or equipment
- Familiar/Experienced with trade compliance regulations, requirements, standards, classifications governing import/export, cross border sales in EU
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, additional language(s) are a plus.
- Good project management & problem-solving skills
- Collaborative and able to develop relationships across multiple functions, divisions & cultures
- Must posses a high level of autonomy and be able to succeed with little supervision
- Demonstrated time/self management ability - managing tasks, deadlines, and changing priorities in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with regulatory trade compliance regulations, classifications and analytical capability to interpret regulations.
- Familiarity with imp/exp, intra EU cross border trade regulations and its registrations like: EU PIC, Drug precursor, Dual Use Goods, Excise Goods, International Incoterms, Union Customs Code, trade agreements, origin, REACH
- Paralegal, Audit or Customs broker training with chemical background
- International Regulatory cross functional and or logistics background
- SAP enterprise software knowledge a plus
- Project management skills
- Experience with automation or process improvement projects and gap analysis assessments.
Knowledge
- Familiar with Chemical Products, DG regulations, HazCom regulations (label/SDS/GHS), product market access requirements (e.g. biocides, detergents, REACH), equipment compliance
- MS Office Suite ; Outlook, Access, Excel, Word, Project, Power Point
- Familiarity with import / export trade classifications, permits, licenses, approvals
