About the job

As DEIF continues to strengthen its power conversion and power electronics capabilities, testing and validation play an increasingly important role in delivering reliable, high-quality products to the market.

To support this journey, we are looking for a Power Electronics Test & Lab Engineer to join our Power Electronics team. In this role, you will work closely with power electronics engineers and product approval specialists, helping transform test specifications into practical test setups, execute validation activities, and analyse results that drive product improvements.

You will play a key role in maintaining and developing our power electronics labs in Zagreb and Graz, ensuring that our facilities, equipment, and working practices support safe, efficient, and high-quality testing.

This position combines hands-on laboratory work, technical problem-solving, and collaboration across engineering disciplines, making it an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys both practical engineering and analytical investigation.

Your responsibilities

• Prepare laboratory equipment and test systems for development and research activities, including auxiliary circuits, instrumentation, power sources, loads, cabling, chillers and cooling systems.
• Configure PLC-based automation and data acquisition (DAQ) systems and execute both manual and automated test campaigns.
• Analyse measurement data, create technical reports, visualise results, and draw conclusions to support product development and continuous improvement.
• Discuss test results with Power Electronics Engineers and recommend follow-up tests, design improvements, and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with the Product Approval team to define and execute converter compliance testing according to relevant UL and IEC standards.
• Perform PCB rework, prototype modifications, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and disassembly of damaged converters.
• Ensure consistent laboratory setups, test procedures, and reporting standards across DEIF locations.
• Own and maintain the Power Electronics laboratories in Zagreb and Graz, including instrumentation, calibration status, facilities, workplace organisation, and continuous laboratory improvements.
• Coordinate with facility management and external service providers to ensure laboratories remain safe, operational, and efficient.
• Support occupational health and safety activities by participating in risk assessments and promoting safe working practices within the laboratories.
• Coordinate external suppliers involved in converter test systems, switchgear installations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and motor drive test setups.
• Coordinate shared laboratory resources across teams and support the efficient execution of testing activities.
• Supervise laboratory access for employees and visitors, ensuring compliance with ESD requirements, safety procedures, and training requirements.

Your profile

You are a curious and hands-on engineer who enjoys working close to hardware, measurements and testing equipment. You thrive in a laboratory environment, take ownership of your work and have a structured approach to testing and troubleshooting.

You collaborate effectively across technical disciplines and communicate technical findings in a clear and practical manner.

Furthermore, you:

• Hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a technical secondary education (HTL or equivalent) within electronics or electrical engineering.
• Have 3+ years of experience working with testing, validation, or development of power electronic systems or similar technologies.
• Have experience with measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analysers, DAQ systems, programmable power supplies, or electronic loads.
• Take initiative and enjoy hands-on work in a laboratory environment.
• Communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken.
• Are willing to travel between DEIF locations as required.

It is an advantage if you have experience with:

• PLC-based automation systems
• Python, Octave, or DewesoftX
• PCB rework and prototype modification
• Type testing according to UL or IEC standards
• SolidWorks or 3D printing
