Company overview

Thalos is building the AI Performance Coach for people who train seriously. We combine training, nutrition, recovery, wearable data and product intelligence into a personalized performance system. We are a small, focused startup team and we value pragmatic, secure and well-documented infrastructure over unnecessary enterprise complexity.

Job summary

We are hiring a DevOps / Backend Infrastructure Engineer to operate and improve our production infrastructure. Our stack includes Linux servers, Docker Compose, Go backend services, Postgres/TimescaleDB, rsync-based data sync and high-volume wearable-device time-series data.

The role is hands-on and production-facing. You will manage servers, deployments, databases, backups, monitoring, secrets, CI/CD, security basics, documentation and backend support. The most important criterion is carefulness: we need someone attentive, systematic and trustworthy with production systems.

Responsibilities

· Manage several Linux servers in production.

· Set up and maintain SSH access, users, permissions, firewalls and system updates.

· Keep server structure clean across services, logs, configs, backups and data folders.

· Maintain Docker Compose setups for backend services, databases, workers and monitoring.

· Improve deployment flow from Git to server and create safe restart/update/rollback procedures.

· Separate dev, staging and production environments.

· Debug Docker containers, volumes, logs, networks and environment variables.

· Operate Postgres and TimescaleDB in production.

· Set up backups and test restores.

· Manage migrations safely.

· Monitor indexes, query performance, vacuum/analyze, disk usage, storage growth and connection limits.

· Configure Timescale hypertables, retention policies, compression and continuous aggregates where needed.

· Support reliable ingestion pipelines for wearable-device time-series data.

· Handle duplicated data, missing data, retries, delayed uploads and idempotency.

· Maintain rsync-based sync jobs where needed and protect against accidental deletion being propagated.

· Organize environment files and secrets safely and prevent secrets from being committed to Git.

· Set up monitoring, centralized logging and useful alerts for critical failures.

· Improve security basics: SSH keys, no password login where possible, least-privilege users, firewall rules, protected database access and updated images.

· Improve GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or similar automation for builds, tests, migrations and deployments.

· Support Go backend services enough to build, run, debug and profile APIs, workers, cron jobs, queues and migrations.

· Write runbooks for deployment, rollback, database restore, service restarts, environment variables and server architecture.

Required skills

· Linux server administration.

· Docker and Docker Compose.

· Production Postgres experience.

· Backup and restore experience.

· Basic networking, DNS, TLS/SSL, reverse proxies and firewalls.

· Git and CI/CD.

· Monitoring and logging setup.

· Security fundamentals.

· Calm, structured production debugging.

· Careful documentation and change management.

Preferred skills

· TimescaleDB.

· Go backend services.

· Time-series, IoT or wearable-device data.

· Ansible or Terraform.

· Prometheus, Grafana, Loki and Alertmanager.

· S3-compatible storage for backups.

· Redis, NATS, RabbitMQ, Kafka or similar queue systems.

· Experience migrating from manual servers toward more automated infrastructure.

Working style

You are careful, reliable and pragmatic. You do not make random server changes. You document what you change, test restore procedures, avoid overengineering and build systems that the whole team can understand.

Compensation

For this full-time role, the gross monthly salary is EUR 4,643, paid 14 times (EUR 65,000 gross annually).

Application

Please apply with your CV. GitHub, technical writing, sanitized runbooks, incident postmortems or architecture examples are welcome.
