Researcher, project SheepR3 (w/m/d)

The Department of Behavioral Physiology of Livestock investigates animal behavior and health to advance animal welfare and performance. This PhD project aims to characterize the immunological defense mechanisms and underlying resistance to gastrointestinal nematode infections in grazing sheep. In collaboration with the Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding, immune parameters will be related to parasitological and health indicators to identify biomarkers for sustainable breeding strategies.

Aufgaben

• Establishment, implementation, and supervision of immunological methods (e.g. ELISA, flow cytometry/FACS, and PCR) to assess immune competence in sheep.
• Participation in field sampling, sample processing, and sample management.
• Collaboration with the Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding to evaluate immunological traits for breeding applications.
• Statistical data analysis, publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals, and presentation of results at national and international conferences.

Profil

• MSc degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Biology, Veterinary Science, Biological Sciences, Immunology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Practical experience with immunological techniques (e.g. ELISA, flow cytometry, or molecular biology) and statistical data analysis is desirable, but not essential.
• Strong motivation for goal-oriented research, with a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, fieldwork, and scientific communication.
• Good written and spoken English skills. Knowledge of German is an advantage, but not mandatory.
