Overview: What's The Role
The Outside Plant (OSP) Technician is responsible for the efficient operation of preventative maintenance of the Copper, Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) and Fiber networks and the reliable functioning of all related equipment to provide quality services to our subscribers, through a combination of proactive and activities, regular monitoring and reporting, and effective and efficient analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of reported issues Responsibilities: What You'll Do* Analysis and troubleshooting of the access network (Copper, HFC, Fiber), the understanding and use of the technical standards that are associated with the operation of this network and the services that the network provides.
- Perform test and analysis of the Access network (Copper, HFC, Fiber) and its systems using appropriate equipment and ensuring that the operational processes and procedures comply with international Copper, HFC, and fiber standards as relevant.
- Meet or exceed the Company’s targets for resolution of service issues and outages within the timeframes and service levels established, including planned and unplanned incidents for both service or directed maintenance activities
- Test and verify operation of optical nodes on the active copper, HFC, and fiber plant and ensure that the required operational measurements are met and maintained
- Perform testing and recording of optic light levels, QAM signals, forward RF signals, return RF signal, MER, BER, CNR and SNR readings
- Perform end-of-line measurement and testing of forward and return RF, making any necessary changes or corrections to ensure system alignment
- Conduct regular maintenance on all access network components, nodes, splitters, FAT, end of line systems, and active power supplies that have been assigned
- Collect and analyse measurements from various test equipment, such as Field Spectrum Analyzer, Digital Multi-meter, 860 DSP field analyser, Optical meter for monitoring of network performance and resolution of service issues
- Perform general construction duties, splicing (coaxial and fiber), activation and emergency restoration of communications facilities
- Respond to incidents that may result in the loss or degradation of service to customers served by our access networks (HFC, Fiber, and copper)
- Identify service problems, make recommendations, and work along with relevant departments to ensure the restoration and/or optimal performance of the Company’s services
- Maintain company vehicle in proper working condition, and prepare and submit all relevant vehicle reports
- Prepare and submit weekly reports on activities completed, in progress and pending completion
- Any other tasks related to maintenance and construction of the OSP components of the access network and/or other related functions.
Qualifications: What You'll Need Preferred Education/ Qualifications:* Diploma in Telecommunications, Electronics (EEET or equivalent) is required, or any equivalent combination of experience and technical certifications.
- Professional certification (e.g. NCTI) or training in broadband cable systems and/or FTTH systems is highly desirable.
Knowledge & Experience:* At least 2 - 3 years of prior experience with technical responsibilities related to Copper, Fiber, and CATV and telecommunications services industry
