Contract Type: Full-time Employment
About the Role
We're looking for a Character Generalist with a technical mindset to join a brand new team within Envar Games, the creators of Witchspire.
This isn't your typical game team.
You will join a very small team of friendly, likeminded creatives who also enjoy wearing many hats. It’s a team that has forfeited time and resources in favor of ownership, fast iteration workflows, and above all creative control under a single direction. It’s a project where the effectiveness of the player experience is more important than the cleverness of the engineering under the hood.
We're looking for someone who's excited by that kind of environment. Someone who's curious, loves trying new ideas, isn't afraid to challenge traditional AAA character workflows, and enjoys owning a feature from beginning to end.
For this project, you'll be the driving force behind all things creatures. You'll create everything from creepy little horrors to a fully realized main antagonist, taking them all the way from modeling and rigging to procedural animation and implementation in Unreal Engine 5.
The project has a darker, atmospheric art direction that's quite different from what you might know us for. Think unsettling monsters, strange creatures, eerie environments, and moody low poly visuals. If making slimy masses, grotesque beings, eldritch horrors, or generally weird things come to life sounds like fun... we'd love to talk.
This is an in-house role, so you'll need to be able to work on-site in Stockholm, Sweden.
What You'll Do
- Own all creature and character art for the project
- Create high quality creature and character models with personality and strong silhouettes
- Build rigs, skin characters, and develop procedural animation systems using Unreal Engine 5 Control Rig
- Bring our main antagonist monster to life using procedural movement rather than relying on traditional canned animations
- Create a handful of smaller creatures (3-5) These characters function as single behavior, mostly stationary AOE’s, single attack and/or path blocking elements but still have to feel alive and dangerous. (The barnacle from Half-Life, for example)
- Collaborate closely with designers and programmers to shape gameplay, encounters, and player experiences
- Jump in and support environment art, props, or other visual tasks when needed
- Create shaders, materials, or technical art solutions that help elevate the final look
- Help improve workflows and solve technical challenges across the project
What We're Looking For
- Professional experience as a Character Artist, Creature Artist, Technical Artist, or similar role in games
- Strong experience with Unreal Engine 5
- Great creature and character modeling skills
- Experience with rigging, skinning, and Control Rig
- Experience building procedural animation systems
- Good understanding of real time art pipelines and optimization
- Comfortable taking ownership and working independently
- Fluent English communication skills
Additional Qualifications
- Experience with Niagara FX
- Experience creating shaders and materials in Unreal Engine
- Familiarity with technical art workflows and pipeline improvements
- Experience working with Git or Perforce
- Blueprint knowledge
- Experience collaborating closely with gameplay systems
- Experience with Houdini or procedural content generation
- HLSL, Python, or other scripting experience
- You've shipped one or more Unreal Engine games
- Experience working in small indie teams
Who You Are
You're a curious and creative artist who enjoys blending art with technical problem solving. You love experimenting, taking ownership, and bringing creatures to life in unique ways. Whether you're building a procedural rig, brainstorming with the team, or creating your next nightmare fuel, you're excited to wear multiple hats, collaborate closely, and help shape a project from its earliest ideas to release.
Why Join Envar?
This is your chance to help build something from the ground up alongside a small, passionate team where creativity, collaboration, and experimentation are part of everyday work. Your ideas will have a real impact, you'll have the freedom to explore and iterate, and you'll play a key role in defining the creatures, atmosphere, and identity of a brand new game.
Show us your monsters!
If you've worked on creatures, horror characters, procedural animation, or personal monster concepts, we'd especially love to see them in your portfolio. Personal projects are absolutely welcome, and if you've got weird sketches, creepy experiments, or things that go bump in the night, don't leave them out.
