PostgreSQL‑focused Database Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead and actively contribute to the end‑to‑end migration of Oracle database services into PostgreSQL, ensuring stability, correctness, and performance throughout the transition.
• Translate application and service requirements into robust PostgreSQL database designs, acting as a bridge between development teams and database engineering.
• Review and validate PostgreSQL schemas, configurations, indexing strategies, and application‑level interactions to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.
• Identify gaps, risks, and optimization opportunities across the PostgreSQL migration pipeline, including datatype mapping, functional equivalence, and performance tuning.
• Produce clear documentation, including PostgreSQL migration learnings, best practices, and repeatable processes for future modernization initiatives.

Requirements

• Extensive hands‑on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA or PostgreSQL‑focused developer in production environments.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals, indexing strategies, query planning, performance tuning, monitoring, and operational reliability.

Proven experience executing Oracle* PostgreSQL migration projects, including datatype mapping, functional equivalence, schema conversion, and performance adaptation.

Solid understanding of Oracle database concepts and how they translate into PostgreSQL (datatype mapping, functional differences, PL/SQL* PL/pgSQL considerations).

• Ability to work autonomously within an established migration framework and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with engineering and database teams.
• Familiarity with Liquibase or similar tools for schema versioning and database change management.

Desired Skills

• Experience with Java applications interacting with PostgreSQL.
• Exposure to distributed systems or event‑driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, Solace).
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted development workflows (e.g., Cursor, Claude agents).
• Experience migrating high‑traffic, low‑downtime PostgreSQL services.
