University West is looking for a research assistant in cybersecurity
The research group within cybersecurity focus on AI and cybersecurity in IT/OT environments. The project explores how agentic AI can be used to autonomously detect and analyse cyber threats and propose or implement appropriate mitigation measures. An important part is the development of AI-based solutions that can adapt to changing threats and conditions during operation. The project further strengthens University West’s research in cybersecurity and AI, with a clear focus on industrial applications.
Job Responsibilities:
You are expected to explore how agentic AI frameworks support and transform end-to-end cyber threat detection, reasoning, and mitigation, and how the continuous, runtime adaptation of AI-intensive security systems challenges conventional cybersecurity and compliance practices.
This project, AEGIR (Agentic Explainable Governance and Incident Reasoning), investigates the security and robustness of continuous, agentic threat-to-control reasoning. The research will be carried out in collaboration with RISE Research Institute AB and several industry partners.
For this position, we are looking for a candidate with a background in software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence; familiarity with regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIS2, the EU AI Act) is a merit.
Requirements for this Position:
- A master’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or equivalent.
- completed courses totalling at least 240 university credits of which a minimum of 60 at master’s level, or substantially equivalent knowledge gained in some other way whether in Sweden or abroad.
- Documented ability to communicate orally and in written English
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence-based (through GitHub page) experience in working with ML/AI algorithms using popular tools like TensorFlow and/or PyTorch
- Experience in working with IT/OT networks
- Experience in developing new ML/AI architectures
- Experience in working with cyber regulations
- Documented experience of research work and scientific writing (prior publications in the subject is regarded as a merit)
- Ability to communicate in Swedish
Specific personal abilities
- Good cooperation skills

This position is a temporary employment.
