Join the newly established research group of Dr. Mykhailo Batiuk at the Institute of Human Genetics, Heidelberg University Hospital and Heidelberg University. Funded by a prestigious ERC Starting Grant, our interdisciplinary team investigates the biological mechanisms underlying post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). By combining cutting-edge single-nuclei transcriptomics, epigenomics, human post-mortem brain research, and preclinical animal models, we aim to identify novel cell-type-specific therapeutic targets for stress-related psychiatric disorders. As a doctoral researcher, you will work in a highly collaborative international environment, gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art genomic technologies, and contribute to research with the potential to transform future PTSD therapies. • Conduct innovative laboratory experiments, including single-nuclei omics, nuclei isolation, library preparation, automated liquid handling, cell culture, and animal studies
• Analyze large-scale transcriptomic and epigenomic datasets using R and/or Python to uncover molecular mechanisms of PTSD
• Evaluate and integrate current scientific literature to support ongoing research projects and hypothesis development
• Prepare scientific manuscripts and contribute to high-impact international publications
• Present research findings during lab meetings, seminars, and national or international conferences
• Mentor Bachelor's and Master's students during research rotations and thesis projects
• Progress toward your doctoral degree by fulfilling doctoral program requirements and preparing your dissertation Your Profile

• Completed or near-completed Master's degree (or equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Genetics, or a related life science discipline
• Strong interest in the molecular and cellular mechanisms of stress-related psychiatric disorders
• Basic programming skills in Python or R and willingness to develop advanced computational competencies
• Initial experience in experimental laboratory research and enthusiasm for hands-on scientific work
• Readiness to work with laboratory animals; required certification can be obtained during employment
• Excellent written and spoken English skills
• Motivation to contribute to an interdisciplinary and international research environment
• Experience with high-throughput genomics, single-cell RNA sequencing, transcriptomics, or epigenetics
• Knowledge of rodent models, behavioral phenotyping, or animal experimentation
