The Copyrights Specialist is responsible for ensuring the integrity of musical asset data and resolving ownership conflicts for publishers, especially on YouTube. This comprehensive role involves the end-to-end management of asset copyrights, from initial verification and data enrichment to complex conflict resolution within YouTube's Content Management System (CMS). The specialist collaborates across teams to maintain accurate metadata, track operational KPIs, and ensure seamless ownership transfers, directly contributing to BMAT's commitment to operational excellence in rights management.
Job Responsibilities
- Identify, review and resolve asset conflicts for publishers on YouTube.
- Utilize advanced asset verification techniques to research and confirm composition ownership and copyright metadata.
- Perform technical conflict resolution tasks within YouTube's CMS, including ownership share adjustments and removals.
- Manage processes through the BMAT conflict resolution platform to enhance asset quality and resolution speed.
- Analyze conflict data to report on critical KPIs, including OK/KO rates, root causes, and territory-specific trends.
- Research major catalogue acquisitions and facilitate smooth ownership transfers for clients.
- Identify and escalate findings regarding "bad actors" and systemic issues on digital platforms to leadership
Requirements
- 2+ years of Admin and/or Copyright experience within the Music Industry is a must (e.g. Documentation or Distribution department of a CMO, Catalog department with a Publisher, Processing Partner).
- A good understanding of CISAC tools, standards and business rules is a plus.
- Proven experience in copyright management, asset verification, and conflict resolution within digital content platforms.
- Strong proficiency working with Spreadsheets and experience with YouTube CMS. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Ability to track and analyze operational KPIs and integrate data enrichment into daily workflows.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Adaptability to a fast-paced environment and changing company needs.
Expectations of the RoleWithin 30 Days:
During the first month, your primary focus will be on familiarising yourself with essential aspects of the role and supporting foundational tasks:
- Collaborate with the Copyrights team to understand objectives and workflows.
- Assist in analyzing relations between musical works and sound recordings, including detecting errors in the automatic reconciliation processes.
- Participate in regular reviews of high-impact conflicts and begin utilizing BMAT conflict resolution platform for basic asset resolution.
Within 60 Days:
By the second month, you'll be expected to take on more complex responsibilities and actively contribute to team projects:
- Coordinate and assess QA processes to ensure quality in BMAT deliverables.
- Perform advanced operational conflict resolution tasks within YouTube's CMS.
- Ensure the correct application of client-claiming rules and ownership-share adjustments.
- Collaborate with various teams within BMAT to understand their operational objectives and workflows.
- Proactively share strategic insights with the Copyrights Manager regarding conflict trends.
Within 90 Days:
At the end of the probationary period, you'll be expected to manage tasks and contribute to strategic planning autonomously:
- Track and report on critical KPIs (e.g., OK/KO rates, root causes) and facilitate complex ownership transfers.
- Become an active contributor within the team, capable of improving processes based on operational experience.
