Senior Python Backend Engineer

We're looking for a Senior Python Backend Engineer to join our team in Portugal in a fully remote working mode. You will contribute to building an innovative supply chain analytics platform that delivers an integrated view of suppliers, products, material categories, shipments, and compliance activities. The platform uses artificial intelligence to provide actionable insights and recommendations tailored to client-specific domains. The role involves designing and developing backend services, building APIs, and integrating data flows using Python and Flask/FastAPI, with a strong emphasis on scalability, security, and performance in a cloud-native environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services using Python (Flask or FastAPI)
• Create and maintain APIs for data integration across platform modules
• Implement database models and queries using Postgres and OpenSearch
• Ensure application reliability, performance optimization, and security in cloud-based environments
• Collaborate with frontend developers, data engineering teams, and product stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Support data workflows, integration patterns, and backend automation features
• Contribute to CI/CD practices and maintain clean, tested, and maintainable code
• Operate in an agile and fast-evolving environment, taking initiative and ownership of deliverables

Requirements

• Strong expertise in Python backend development, including Flask or FastAPI framework
• Solid hands-on experience building RESTful APIs and integrating backend systems
• Good knowledge of SQL and relational database design (Postgres preferred)
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, product-driven environment
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills for working in cross-functional teams

Nice to have

• Familiarity with OpenSearch and related data retrieval technologies
• Experience with Spark, SparkSQL, or PySpark for data engineering workflows
• Exposure to frontend technologies like React and TypeScript
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and DevOps practices
• Prior client-facing experience in innovative or startup-like project settings
